DEATH METAL

In all the genres of metal music there is one called Death Metal. This is really another branch within the heavy metal genre. Death metal bands has different genres within its own genre. The style of death metal has different elements, like deep growling vocals, double bass drumming, heavy distorted guitars and various tempo changes with complex song structures.

The Journey of Death Metal

Death metal come from pieces and elements of thrash metal. The growth of this genre started to inspire people in the mid 1980s. Death metal was started by three bands, Slayer, Celtic Frost and Kreator. There has been one man that has been concidered to be "the father of death metal" and that mans name is Celtic Frost. The late 80s and 90s were a rising point for Morbid Angel and Possessed. 



Structure of Music 

The style of this music usually has a couple of guitarists, a bass guitarists and a double bass drummer. The vocalist will use variations of harmony singing and deep grow screaming. This genre has been know to have complex music. They have a very fast tempo of music, with insane guitar riffs and bass beats. The singer will put growls, snarls and grunts in their music to match the distortion. This different style of music has always been portrayed to noise, which is completely an expression to them.

Death Metal and Luciferianism

Death metal has always been tied with dark meaning or with the devil. This has been true in some black metal bands, because people will take their distortion singing and musical style and tag it to the devil. Their songs and albums have just as much meaning as any other genre of music. Songs about love, hate, happiness or sadness have all been written by various artists.

Other branches from the Death Metal Tree

There are other categories that death metal have broken off too. Here is a list of some of the more poplular subgenres of death metal.

Melodic

This is the same variations of the typical death metal. It has the same features and elements as death metal with more melodic singing. In Flames, At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity have expanded this to one of the most popular forms of death metal.

Technical

Technical Death Metal is a break off of progressive rock and classical music. It has its own song with lots of harmonies and melodies. The different feature you will find is their uncommon time signatures. Bands like Opeth, Edge of Sanity and Cryptosy fit into this category.

Doom Death

You can figure out that Death Doom Metal is a combination of death and doom metal. Bands like My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Winter have slowed the tempo, scream out a growling vocal and kept the double kick drumming going to make this a new death metal genre.

Blackened

Blackened death metal is more of black metal than death metal. There are just some features that pull from both genres of metal music. Band included are Blasphemy, Behemoth and Zyklon.

Goregrind / Deathgrind

This death metal subgenre is an insane intensity and speed in their music. But with being very complex and deep death growl vocals keeps it in the death metal family. Bands that are included are Circle of Death Children, Cephalic Carnage, and Brujeria.

Deathcore

Salt the Wound, Job for a Cowboy and Suicide Silence are some of the bands that have created this new sub genre of music called deathcore. Keep the fast intensity as of deathgrind, but giving you more death metal elements like deep growling vocals.

Whats Next for Death Metal

Death metal isn't going anywhere or going to die out. It is only getting better and more popular. Some bands are getting to public radio and are connecting to a different crowd. Watch for more death metal coming to the city near you
